Questions

Dual boiler or heat exchanger?

Both brew and steam at once. A dual boiler controls brew temperature directly, which is more precise for light roasts. A heat exchanger is simpler and often has more steam power, but brew temperature takes a little technique to manage.

Do I need a 64mm or larger grinder?

Not necessarily. A 55mm Mignon-class grinder is a very good match for machines at this level. Larger burrs mostly pay off for light roasts and straight espresso.

Is it worth stretching to $3,000?

Only if you know what you would gain. Our results page shows a “Step up” option within about 25% of your budget and spells out what the extra money buys.
